Self Help
What do you do when something goes wrong?
The first step is to determine what's happened. If your computer has strange programs opening on the screen, or always goes to the wrong web site its probably been hijacked by a trojan, or you have some virus lurking about reeking havoc.
There are a number of steps you can take before getting in the professionals. Of course, you should be really careful when downloading software from the internet. The software needs to come from a reputable site - the last thing you need is more nasites on your system.
When confronted with a computer that's infected with who knows what I run these software products. If you can't access the net, you may need to get a friend to download them onto a memory stick and install them from there. You may also need to run your computer in safe mode to effectivly remove the problems. Some of the little blighters are very stubborn and will come back time and time again.
In no particular order I would download these products and run them:
Microsofts Windows Defender
Lavasofts Ad-aware
Spybots Search and Destory
AVG Anti-virus
AVG anti-spyware
Comodo Free anti-virus, firewall, malware and a whole lot more
Avast free anti-virus
