About Us

Australian Storer's Productions was founded on April 18th 1972.

Actually, there is no us, this is all about me. I'm a small businessman, using my computer skills to further my knowledge, and along the way help other people to use their computers.

I've always wanted a website that says "About Us" - well, not always, the web hasn't been around that long. I find the technology wonderful, and engaging. These days I can find out just about anything I want using Google, I can make my computer behave in the way I want.

Going to school in the 70's was fun. When I was in Form 5 we had computer classes. Well not me, some other kids got to mess around with a really big ugly looking box that had a dot matrix printer attached to it. Just one computer that is.

Now, of course, schools strive to have plenty of computers - its not uncommon for 30 machines to be in the computer lab.

We got a computer in the newsagency I worked in. It ran our cheque system and paper rounds and billing(DOS 3 or something). It changed the way we did business overnight. Going from old card style system and big multi-column books to a floppy disk.

Sometime in there, I purchased my own computer, a Commodore Vic20 and began my life as a programmer. I use to spend every spare moment programming it. Compared to today's machines, well, there is no comparison!

In the early 90's I got my first IBM and DOS 5 then upgraded to Windows 95.  Of course, I then continued to upgrade (as you do) and expand my knowledge, finally making the switch to Linux based systems in late 2007.  At home I use Ubuntu for my general computing.  I still have a mail server running Mercury mail server, but its days are numbered!

At one stage, after being home with the kids in their early years, I was wandering through the school grounds with a friend who said she was looking for someone to run some computer classes. I offered to help, and she offered to pay me. I was going to do it for free! That's how I got into teaching and training. The internet came along, and suddenly everyone was getting a computer.

There - how's that for a quick history of my life and computers!
